The capital of Klagenfurt in the Wörthersee
Klagenfurt (92,000 inhabitants) is the capital of the most southern Austrian federal state, Carinthia. The beauty of this town is varied. It is not called free of charge the „Renaissance jewel in the Wörthersee“. Mainly Italian master builders stamped the 800 year-old Old Town with her very well restored Renaissance constructions, her inner courtyards, her places.
Cultural-travelling come in Klagenfurt in the Wörthersee completely at her expense: On account of literature, museums, galleries, castles, churches – the hometown of the world novelist Robert Musil and the author Ingeborg Bachmann, offers a diverse cultural offer. The municipal theatre built in the Jugendstil Klagenfurt arouses enthusiasm, e.g., in the year with productions of the most different genres. But the town is not possibly a museum, but popular shopping centre. In the carefully historical passages and arcade courts there are boutiques and shops, cafés, restaurants and bars.
"Event capital" of Austria
Klagenfurt in the Wörthersee is the whole year the "event capital" of Austria. The coronation of the event year are the Beachvolleyball-Grand to Slam tournaments and "Kärnten Ironman Austria".
Old Town hike Every Friday and Saturday you can take part free of charge in a controlled Old Town hike by Klagenfurt. Meeting place is in each case at 10 o'clock before the tourism office on the new place.
